This lesson turns playtesting into a repeatable production system: you will run structured sessions, convert notes into reproducible issues, and decide what must be fixed before moving to build and launch work.

Step-by-step workflow

Step 1: Define the playtest question for each session

Do not ask testers to evaluate everything at once. Set one core question per session:

  • "Can new players finish the first encounter without help?"
  • "Do players understand HUD damage and objective prompts?"
  • "Does the pause/menu flow break immersion or controls?"

Use a short brief before each run:

  1. Build version and date
  2. Test scenario start point
  3. Session duration (15 to 25 minutes)
  4. Required outputs (issues, confusion points, drop-off moments)

Step 2: Recruit the right tester mix

Use 2 to 5 testers per session for fast iteration:

  • 1 or 2 genre-familiar players
  • 1 or 2 near-beginner players
